Cable customers still in the dark about 2009

We still don’t know whether analog cable TV customers will lose access to local channels after Feb. 17, 2009, when the switch to digital broadcasts is complete. They may need set-top boxes. The transition is less than two years away, and we still don’t know.

Time Warner Cable wants authorization to downconvert local stations’ signals to analog for its analog subscribers. Congress and the FCC need to make a decision on this now to head off chaos in 2009.
