RCA converter box announced at CES
January 7th, 2007Thomson announced its RCA DTA800 set-top converter box—they call it a “digital TV adapter”—today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The silver, remote-controlled digital-to-analog converter connects to a traditional analog TV, allowing it to receive over-the-air digital broadcasts. Broadcasters, anxiously anticipating the phaseout of analog TV in 2009, signed up Thomson and LG to build prototype converter boxes designed to preserve access to the 15 percent of their audience that remains antenna-dependent.
