LG unveils 6th-generation digital TV technology
January 4th, 2007LG Electronics has released the sixth generation of its much-praised ATSC digital TV chipset, Doug Lung reports. The smaller, less power-hungry VSB demodulator chipset is said to improve receiver performance by 30 percent.
The original VSB patents awarded in 1992 to Zenith—today part of LG—expire in 2009, according to Pete Putman’s recent Pro AV piece. So the sixth-gen chips, he writes, “might be all we’ll see for a while.”
